- واژهنامه · French & English to Persian Epistemological Dictionary une|a|one The reason "a" alternates with "an" is that it is a reduction of "one." Our ancestral languages, Old English, Latin, Gothic, and others, did not have definite and indefinite articles. In the Germanic and Romance languages, they either developed from the words meaning "one" and "that"—or still are those words. The German equivalents are ein "one, a" and das "the, that" and, though French for "the" has reduced to "le" and "la" from Latin ille "that," French "un(e)" still means both "one" and "a." The Slavic languages, Russian, Polish, Serbian, and others, get along very well without them, thank you, though Greek has long exhibited them. yak (pb. aivaka, plv. aeva) i (Old pers. iyam, PIE i-, fem. î- http://us.share.geocities.com/agimzeneli/etymology2.html) + fra. un sur cent : (az) sad yak + Na hešt az delirân e xod hic yak Ke ârand har bâd-pâ râ be tak (FERDOWSI)
